Combative Obama says he’ll work with GOP on his terms........

WASHINGTON: Morning after the American electorate delivered a monumental snub through what is being called a midterm massacre, a combative President Barack Obama said in effect that he would work with the victorious Republican Party in the remainder of his 26 months in office, but it will have to be on his terms.

At a White House press conference following his party's electoral debacle, Obama appeared far from chastened. He responded to disaffected Americans by saying that "I hear you" and that his election mandate was to "get stuff done." He grudgingly acknowledged that the Grand Old Party had won the election ("Obviously the Republicans had a good night," was about all he could concede) but he saw it as a mandate for the Republicans to work with him, rather than the other way around. In a sign of things to come, Obama said, "Congress will pass some bills that I cannot sign...(and) I'm pretty sure I'll take some actions that some in Congress will not like."

While he saw that as something quite natural and part of how American democracy works, the conservative flock celebrating their side's victory saw it as a repudiation of the results.
