Angry Birds developer Rovio is laying off 110 of its staff and shuttering one of its studios in Finland.
The company’s Tampere studio, located in the south of Finland, is being closed down so that the developer can consolidate its efforts into a single location in its Espoo headquarters.
As for the job losses, the 110 cuts are slightly less than were previously estimated with Rovio expecting to have to cut 130 roles instead. The company opened up some new positions which meant that not all of this original number had to go.
Back in October, Rovio chief executive Mikael Hed made a statement that warned of these cuts, saying that the company had been building a team based on growth forecasts that have not been fulfilled.
Starting life as a highly polished and highly successful mobile title, Angry Birds has become a strong franchise going on to spawn cartoons, a massive range of merchandise, a feature film due for release in 2016 and even theme parks.
Other entries in the series of games include licensed deals with Star Wars and Transformers, a kart racing game and an RPG. The franchise as a whole has approximately 200 million monthly active players which makes it a very powerful series, but even so this is down from its peak in 2012 where it was hitting 260 million.
