Arrested ISIS recruit introduced to terror group by girlfriend............

HYDERABAD: British national Nicky Joseph alias Ayesha may have introduced city techie Salman Mohiuddin to groups sympathetic to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) as hundreds of her compatriots are in the ranks of the dreaded outfit.

"Mohiuddin developed a channel to join the ISIS and undergo training with the help of Joseph as the latter used his software knowledge in cyber space to further the cause of the extremist group," sources privy to the investigation said.

Mohiuddin was arrested at RGI Airport on Thursday night while he was about to board a Dubai-bound flight. He was allegedly planning to travel to Syria along with Dubai-based Joseph, who happens to be his girlfriend, and join ISIS ranks. After training, he wanted to return to India and carry out the group's activities here, the sources said.

Cyberabad police said that in one of the three Facebook accounts opened by Mohiuddin, which were sympathetic to the ISIS cause, over 180 messages were posted by like-minded persons, most of them suspected to be from India, as the engineering post-graduate took the task of recruiting local youth for the group ever since his return to the city.

It is learnt that Mohiuddin confessed that he wanted to marry Ayesha. "Mohiuddin wanted to marry Ayesha in Dubai and later proceed to Syria to fight for the cause of the caliphate, started by ISIS," police, quoting the arrested engineer, said. Joseph and Mohiuddin had met in the US when the latter was pursuing MS at a university in Texas.

Joseph, who converted to Islam, had later married someone else and settled in Dubai. Over the last few months, she had developed contacts with British nationals working for the ISIS and evinced interest in strengthening the terror group. "It was during this endeavour that she introduced Mohiuddin to them," sources further said.

After his arrest, the engineer was grilled and produced before a magistrate on Friday night. The judge remanded him in judicial custoday and he was subsequently shifted to Cherlapally jail on Saturday. Shamshabad ACP Sudharshan told STOI that police would file a petition seeking Mohiuddin's custody for further interrogation.

Investigators are now scouring the seized laptop and mobile phone and verifying his call details and online activities. A search on FB in the name of 'Salman Moinuddin' with a location at Houston, threw up a closed account with ISIS logo and text 'Ad-doulah, Al-Islamiyyah'—in other words the Islamic State.
