It's official - tattoos are becoming less sexy.
The number of people who rated tattoos as sexy has declined in the last ten years. Only 5% of people without tattoos thought a tattoo made a person sexier in a 2012 survey. That's down from 8% in 2003, according to data collected in the US.
In fact, polls conducted in the US in 2003, 2008 and 2012 show a decline year on year in the number of people who think tattoos make a person sexier.
Even people with tattoos think that tattoos are less sexy now than in 2003. It's not a huge drop, but it's notable that other attitudes to tattoos HAVEN'T changed.
A tattoo could still make you feel stronger
Don't bother going to the gym. Just getting a tattoo makes you look stronger, the survey also showed.People without tattoos are still just as likely to think a tat makes someone look stronger. And the number of people with tattoos who say they make them feel stronger has increased year on year.
But no
The number of un-inked people who believe a tat makes someone more rebellious has dropped, but remains at about 50% - so half of non-tattooed people think the inked are rebellious. In contrast, only a quarter of tattooed people say it makes them feel more rebellious.
This data was collected in the US, but the same company has done some work on the UK that shows us where the tattoo hotspots are.
More people are tattooed in the North and Wales
People in the South East and Scotland are less likely to have tattoos.
A third of people in their late twenties and early thirties regret getting inked
Regrets appear to set in as people get older, with those under 25 much more relaxed about their body art. Of course, there are other reasons you might regret a tattoo.
