Sourav Ganguly is set to become the next President of the Cricket Association of Bengal. Ganguly had met West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, on Wednesday. He was quoted saying: "I am thankful to my colleagues for giving me this responsibility. If the 117 members agree, I will take over the responsibility, will try and do the best.

After the meeting Ganguly was quoted saying by PTI: "To discuss something like this (three days after his (Jagmonah Dalmiya's) death is not right. Speculation will be on, someone will run CAB. It's too early to comment because it has just been three days... It's very early to say."
However, there were some doubts about his candidature. A CAB official had said: “"It's obvious that Sourav went to Writers' to talk cricket. Everybody knows that Madam is fond of Sourav. Who knows, she may even support his bid to become CAB president."
He had added: "Look, he has yet to complete a term as an office-bearer. Simply put, he is a novice in cricket administration. Yet he wants to become president right away. But he must remember that there are others who are much, much senior to him.”
