Dhanoa takes over as new IAF vice-chief.............

NEW DELHI: Air Marshal Birender Singh Dhanoa, who flew many night-strike fighter missions during the 1999 Kargil conflict, took over as vice-chief of the IAF on Monday. He is tipped to succeed Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha as IAF chief when the latter retires in December 2016. 

Commissioned into the IAF fighter stream in June 1978, Air Marshal Dhanoa succeeds Air Marshal Ravi Kant Sharma, who demitted office on Sunday after 40 years of service. A qualified flying instructor who has flown various types of fighters, the new vice-chief has held a number of crucial operational appointments, from station commander of a fighter base to chief of the South-Western Air Command.
