CBI on Friday filed a charge sheet against the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha chief Bimal Gurung, his wife, sitting MLA from Kalimpong Harka Bahadur Chhetry and 20 others in a case of alleged murder of Madan Tamang, President of Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha League (ABGL) in 2010.
Besides them, CBI has filed a charge sheet under IPC sections related to criminal conspiracy and murder against the then office bearers of GJMM - Assistant General Secretary Binoy Tamang, Vice President Pradeep Pradhan, and General Secretary Roshan Giri. Two others Devendra Sharma and Dinesh Theeng have also been named as accused among others.
"CBI has today filed supplementary charge sheet... for criminal conspiracy for murder, criminal intimidation and other offences and for criminal conspiracy for murder, rioting armed with deadly weapons, committing murder etc... in the sensational case relating to alleged murder of Madan Tamang, President of a private organisation of Darjeeling (West Bengal)," CBI spokesperson Kanchan Prasad said in New Delhi on Friday.
She said CBI registered the case and took over the investigation from West Bengal Police through its FIR dated May 21, 2010. "It was alleged in the FIR that at around 09.20 AM on May 21, 2010 while Madan Tamang was busy in the preparation of a public meeting at Club side Motor Stand of Darjeeling, a gang of another private organisation who were armed with deadly weapons suddenly attacked the supporters of said private organisation headed by Madan Tamang.
"In this attack, Madan Tamang sustained grievous injuries and was shifted to hospital where doctor declared him brought dead," she said. After thorough investigation, CBI has today filed a final supplementary chargesheet against 23 accused persons in the designated court, she said. "Earlier, a chargesheet was filed against 31 other accused persons in this case," she said.
