London: Two people were killed and another suffered serious injuries after a light aircraft crashed near an airfield in the UK.
Police said a light aircraft come down and overturned in a patch of woodland half a mile south of A303 (road). Police, ambulance crews and paramedics are currently at the scene of the accident near Popham airfield in Hampshire.
A spokeswoman for South Central Ambulance Service said that two people were declared dead at the scene while the third was rushed to hospital.
"Our crews assessed three patients, sadly two were confirmed dead at the scene. One patient was taken by land ambulance to Southampton General Hospital with life threatening injuries," she said.
A Hampshire Fire Department spokesman said that 25 firefighters were dealing with the incident.
The scene was close to a holiday park but the occupants of the aircraft were not believed to be linked to the site, a police spokeswoman said.
She said that inquiries were being carried out to trace the next-of-kin of those involved.
It was not immediately known what led to the crash.
