Chandni Rajgaur couldn't afford time on this ad. So she got right down to it in her opening three words "Chandni bikau hai" (Chandani is for sale). That's perhaps how desperate the Vadodara woman was to earn money. After all, she was the only person putting the roti on the table for her parents, who couldn't fend for themselves.
In an interview with Zee Media, she explained that she didn't have money for their treatment, "My mother has been ailing from paralysis for long, and even my father, who provided for the family, recently met with an accident and has been bedridden."
Chandni was also interviewed by Dainik Bhaskar, and told them that she knows it is a shameful act, but one that one is forced into. According to her, the responses she has got on Facebook have all been attempts to exploit her.
Lilaben Ankolia, chairperson of Gujarat State Commission For Women, told the media that she is not helpless, "The civil hospitals in Gujarat are well-equipped to provide medical care for her parents and Chandni can approach the Commission in case she needs any kind of help."
