Several reports from various sources have revealed that the popularity of Google's futuristic wearable technology device, Google Glass, is apparently on the decline; with the users staring to lose their initial enthusiasm over the device.
The Google Glass smartglasses were first made available - at an exorbitant price of $1,500 - to the so-called 'Glass Explorers' in 2013. Despite the fact that the futuristic look of Google Glass tempted a lot of people to try out the product, most of them soon started to feel weighed down by the burdensome presence of the device in real life.
With Google Glass Explorers gradually turning into Glassholes as privacy issues were raised about the use of the device, one of the key reasons behind the semi-failure of Glass was that there evidently was no clear usefulness of the device.
Since the presence of Google Glass went almost unremarked at Google 2014 I/O event, it is quite evident that the device is witnessing a plunge in popularity. Google Glass is now being sold by eBay for nearly half the original cost of $1,500.
Nonetheless, Google has said in a statement to Reuters that will not abandon the glass project. Google said: "We are as committed as ever to a consumer launch. That is going to take time and we are not going to launch this product until it's absolutely ready."
