Ex-CBI chief AP Singh resigns as UPSC member over alleged links with meat exporter Qureshi................

Former CBI chief AP Singh, who was in the midst of a controversy over his purported links with meat exporter Moin Qureshi, has resigned as UPSC member. Singh, who put in his papers last week, said that he was left with no option after a special court in Mumbai dismissed charges against BJP President Amit Shah in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case on the ground that political reasons were behind them.
"I have submitted my resignation a week back and am not sure whether it has been accepted as yet," Singh told PTI on Wednesday. He said the order of the special court had left him with no choice but to resign as the UPSC member. However, it was not immediately clear whether he has menioned this as the reason in his resignation letter.
Singh had hit the spotlight after the Income Tax department spoke about purported conversations between him and Qureshi. The alleged exchange of messages on Blackberry smart phone between Qureshi and Singh had been examined by the Tax authorities and sources in the department had alleged that certain coded languages were used by the duo.
Singh, however, feels that the assumption of the tax authorities had no basis and they should have at least given him a chance to explain before making leaks in the media.
Observing that the charges against Shah in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh and Tulsiram Prajapati fake encounters had a political undertone, a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Mumbai had discharged the BJP chief from the case on December 30.
"I found substance in the main contention made by the applicant [Shah] that he was involved in the case by the CBI for political reasons," special CBI judge MB Gosavi had said.
