CHANDIGARH: Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha, Capt Amarinder Singh on Sunday asked Shiromani Akali Dal and Bhartiya Janata Party to stop playing mind games with each other. He was referring to the proposed dharna of the Akali Dal to be led by party president and deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal against Border Security Force over heroin and other drug smuggling from across the border.
"Who are they trying to fool as they are very much part of the central government under which the BSF comes," he said and added that the dharna was aimed at pre-empting the anti-drug rally being organized by BJP president Amit Shah in Amritsar on January 12.
He also took a dig at chief minister Parkash Singh Badal for opposing forced conversions as he had started feeling the heat from the BJP. "When Congress raised the issue, the Akalis maintained a silence and sided with the BJP. And now Mr Badal has woken up to the threat of forced conversions for obvious reasons," he remarked.
Amarinder said that by trying to single out the BSF, the Akalis were trying to shift the blame on the Centre. "But let me remind you that you are very much part of the same government and you cannot shrug off the blame," he pointed out.
"Moreover, Punjab has not only been devastated by the consumption of heroin that is smuggled in, but also by synthetic drugs, which are manufactured locally with the patronage of Akalis leaders," he added.
